Ready. . . Set . . . Go: Visit
The teens went one way and the little one and I made her birthday party gift bag purchases for the upcoming event.
We reunited and it was time to leave out the same door we entered,
the one in the ladies department of J.C.Penney
with the double glass doors, two on each side for the convenience of the those entering and those exiting.
But the crowd inside the store, huddled around the doors and were not leaving.
Outside a man lay on the ground, actually four men were on the ground,
3 of them wrestling the 1.
A J.C.Penney visitor turned thief.
A pair of Nike shoes lay on the sidewalk.
The wrestling continued even when the handcuffs were secure.
I heard one woman say,
“When they tackled him a gun fell out of his pocket.”
When I felt like it was safe. . .
No, actually when I felt an overwhelming need to get to my car and get away from the mall and home where I felt safe, we bee-lined past the scene to the car.
As the police arrived, I drove off.
That night as I lay in bed a Thief paid me a visit.
It tackled me underneath the safety and warmth of those sheets.
I wrestled with the what ifs of the situation
One after another:
What if there was a shooting?
What if the timing was different and we were caught in the middle?
What if . . .
FEAR tackled
PEACE stolen
But in the wrestling I took out my handcuffs
And I wrestled hard with the Thief.
Eventually I heard the clicking as the security of the handcuffs tightened
With each click
Thank you for . . .
Another click
Thank you, Lord that . . .
And the final click of Thanksgiving takes captive the Thief.
Peace is returned to it’s rightful owner
Like the stolen pair of Nike shoes.
